The almost 130 year old pier is now closed to public. After the pier was deemed unsafe for public use works have commenced to repair the structure. Steel gates are in place with a warning sign reading ‘Pier Closed’, but just before the order was given to reconstruct I wanted to capture the authentic appeal of the buckling structure. Getting out of bed very early and arriving before sunrise I was very fortunate to experience a moody and overcast morning with a thin layer of early morning fog just beginning to lift. The scene was just perfect for a classic Melbourne mood.
